Abstract

Objective During the COVID-19 pandemic, emergency medical staff faced unprecedented occupational stressors, making psychological resilience a critical protective resource. This study aimed to identify the factors related to psychological resilience among emergency medical staff during the COVID-19 pandemic in Taizhou, China. Methods In April 2022, we surveyed 69 medical staff from four medical systems at different levels in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, using a convenience sampling method. The survey incorporated scales for psychological resilience, job engagement briefs, perceived social support, and the Simple Coping Style Questionnaire. Results Resilience among emergency medical workers was positively correlated with positive coping ( r = 0.725, p < 0.001), family support ( r = 0.621, p < 0.001), friend support ( r = 0.719, p < 0.001), other support ( r = 0.576, p < 0.001), vigor ( r = 0.730, p < 0.001), dedication ( r = 0.693, p < 0.001), and absorption ( r = 0.645, p < 0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that positive coping [ β = 0.69, p = 0.001, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.30, 1.08], friend support ( β = 1.03, p = 0.039, 95% CI: 0.06, 2.01), and vigor ( β = 1.21, p = 0.002, 95% CI: 0.46, 1.96) were significantly associated with resilience. Conclusion Emergency medical team members exhibited moderately high levels of psychological resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Positive coping methods, support from friends, and personal vigor were significant positive associated with psychological resilience among emergency medical staff. Healthcare institutions should promote adaptive coping strategies and provide psychological support for medical staff.
